My 2020 Christmas Recap

For the first time in my 30+ years, I spent Christmas alone. With everything that went on this year, “hello pandemic”, I knew there was a chance that I wouldn’t be able to travel or meet up with family and friends for the holidays this year. To be honest as prepared as I thought I was, with my tree and holiday decor on display, it definitely hit different on Christmas Day. Tempted to just sleep the day away, I decided to make the most of it! My morning was filled with FaceTime calls with family and friends and had the opportunity to watch niece and nephew open the gifts I bought them with expressions pure joy on their face.

By the time the afternoon came around, I finally decided on what I would make for Christmas dinner. If you know me then shouldn’t come as a surprise that I can be quite indecisive when it comes to deciding what I’ll cook. After a few Pinterest searches and going back-and-forth between lamb chops, braised short ribs, and Cornish hens, I landed on a recipe for Cornish Hens that I just had to try. With little to none of the ingredients in my kitchen, I found myself headed to the grocery store... Yes, that’s right, the grocery store was open on Christmas Day! ( only in California) The dinner turned out as good as I hoped and the thrill of trying a new recipe and documenting it in my insta-stories was a great distraction and made the loneliness that I felt, a little less prevalent.

After dinner, I decided to stick to a long time family tradition of going to the movies on Christmas Day, minus the theater and watched “Soul” on Disney+. If you haven’t watched it yet, do yourself a favor and add it to the top of your watchlist. From the music to the reminder of how short life is and the importance of embracing your passions and finding your purpose, this movie was just what I needed to end the day on a high note!

All in all, this may not have been the Christmas that I would have wanted but it’s the Christmas that I got and I can’t say that I would make any changes. On a day that has been at times hectic and rushed, I had the opportunity to relax and go at my own pace.

happy holidays from sheena marie

I’m extremely grateful for the people in my circle who made it a point to make sure that I didn’t feel alone during this holiday season. From unexpected gifts to calls and FaceTimes, I felt the love from near and far.

But now that Christmas is behind us, it’s time to take down the tree and decor, focus on my goals for 2021, and be optimistic and hopeful for the year to come! Time to get my 2021 vision board together!

Happy Holidays!
